Purpose of the award – To reward the new District Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) Quartet Champion. The Champion may have the opportunity to represent the Illinois District, at the Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) Contest in Germany, which is hosted by Barbershop in Germany (BinG), every two (2) years.
MBHA will consider all entries from all district MBHA contests to provide up to the top three quartets for each country within MBHA to the World Mixed Quartet Organizing Committee for consideration to compete representing their country in the World Mixed Quartet Contest.
When is it given – This award is only available to be competed for every other year. The presentation is made after the Saturday Quartet Finals. At the completion of the contest, the award is presented by a member of the Awards Committee or their chosen representative.
What criteria are used – The Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) Quartet Champion is that quartet, which, is a registered quartet (in good standing) in the Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA), through a single round of competition, receives the highest total score of all mixed quartets that are competing for this award. One of the members of the quartet must be of the opposite sex(i.e. 1 male and 3 females, 2 males and 2 females, 3 males and 1 female). All members of the quartet must be members of MBHA at the time they compete at the Illinois District.
How is the information obtained – The Contest Administrator(CA) receives the scores for each competitor from the judging panel. The CA enters the scores into the Society Scoring Program. When all scores have been entered, the program sorts the scores and determines placement for each eligible competitor. The OSS (Official Scoring Summary) is then printed.
What is the physical award – The quartet will receive a certificate and the District Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) Quartet Champion trophy at the convention followed up with an individual plaque for each member to be presented within 45 days at the place of their choice. The trophy is a “traveling trophy”.
